Album of the Year?
I've listened to a lot of music this year and without doubt the best album I've heard so far is The Devil You Know by Heaven & Hell. This is a Black Sabbath album in all but name as Heaven & Hell comprises of Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Ronny James Dio and Vinnie Appice - the fellas behind the two amazing Black Sabbath albums Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules.
Naming their new band after their classic Sabbath album is an interesting move, it sets the stall out without bringing the baggage that the Sabbath name now has. Ozzy and his bloody wife have done their level best to turn Black Sabbath and its musical heritage into a joke.
...
The Devil You Know is a meaty juggernaut of an album that shows that the band members have lost none of their bite as they've aged. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio is now 66 yet still belting out epic metal lyrics in a more powerful manner than singers half his age. Geezer and Tony's riffs are weighty and powerful as the band show the younger doom metal bands how it's done.
This is the best Black Sabbath album I've heard for a very long time and sits very comfortably next to the two Dio-era Sabbath albums from the early eighties. The best track is undoubtedly Bible Black, which follows. Brilliant song, video is a bit naff though.
