Cub & Ultimate Drive Demo
This is a very quick and rough demo recording made using with some new gear. The recording was made in Reaper and is made up of four tracks. Tracks 2, 3 & 4 were recorded using a Behringer XM8500 mic into a Line6 UX1 audio interface. No modelling was used, nor any post-recording FX.
...
Track 1: Drums via Ezdrummer
Track 2: Rhythm guitar. Gibson Les Paul Traditional into a Laney Cub 12R
Track 3: Rhythm guitar. Gibson Les Paul Traditional into a Laney Cub 12R
Track 4: Lead guitar. Gibson Les Paul Traditional into a Laney Cub 12R
Track 2 and 3 just using the gain from the Laney Cub. Reverb on tracks 2 and 3 via a TC Electronic Hall of Fame reverb pedal. Delay on Track 4 from a TC Electronic Flashback delay pedal.
But what of the lead tone on track 4? This was the Harley Benton Ultimate Drive, a £25 pedal from Thomann that's a clone of the Fulltone OCD which costs over £100 more. I didn't touch the pots on the Laney Cub, it's the same tone, but with the Ultimate Drive switched on.
So what do you think? Does it sound like a cheap piece of junk, or a decent pedal?
