To Shred or Not to Shred

As you may have read - I've picked up the guitar again, my excitement reignited thanks in part to the new guitar and mostly to the encouragement of my wonderful wifey.

Over the last year or so I haven't played that much. My technique is a bit sloppy now and my fingers rather slow. In some ways I actually think I'm a better player than I was in my uni days where I played regularly.

That's down to having a bit more taste, experience and having listened to a lot more music. Yet the truth is it was around the time I started uni that I stopped learning and practising technique.

I felt I'd learned enough - or at least learned the stuff I could manage without dull practice. But now I've a yearning to actually learn some new chops, I don't know if I can get my fingers as fast they were when I was 21, but I'd love to be able to get them playing some more interesting stuff.

So I've actually bought my first guitar technique book since I was a teenager. I'm going back to school. I'm going to be practising scales again like a beginner. But hopefully I'll be a much better guitarist for it.

Yeah, being a guitarist and being a musician often don't overlap :)

There's more overlap than there is with drummers. :)
